SMH has a nice article about Peter Helliar’s upcoming feature ‘I Love You Too’.
The comic Peter Helliar, Rove McManus’s comfortably proportioned sidekick, calls it “a nice Christmas present”. A film that he has been quietly writing for six years, I Love You Too, has been financed and will go into production next year.
The romantic comedy is about a commitment-phobic man and a “new-age dwarf” who want to win back the women they love. “They enter into a bit of an agreement to help each other out and, funnily enough, they learn from each other,” Helliar told SiT.
“I was pretty adamant when I started this that I didn’t want any friends working on it,” he said. “No disrespect to Rove or Hamish or Andy or any of the guys that I might ask – and there might even be small bits or cameos – but I just didn’t want to take away from people watching the film and thinking, ‘There’s Peter and his mate Rove.’ ”
Helliar has a solemn promise for prospective ticket-buyers: “I can certainly say it’s funnier than Candy and Little Fish. I’ll even go as far as saying it’s funnier than Jindabyne as well.”
