Rove loves John Campbell

July 8th, 2008 · No Comments

Sunday Star Times has a write up about Rove and New Zealand…

OK, so I made this up. It is, however, firmly based on fact. “Yes, it’s true,” says McManus, 34, from his Melbourne home. “I love JC, I really do. He is one of the sweetest, most genuine people I’ve had the privilege of getting to know and calling a friend. I love spending time with him. He’s a marvellous person, and extremely good at what he does. There’s no one over here that could touch John as a current affairs journalist. No one here has that amount of credibilty, intelligence and wit. John can cover a hard-hitting story one minute, then come back after the break and interview a doofus like me. We talk on the phone quite regularly, or text each other, and hearing from him is like a drug. The man just makes me feel so good! I even envy him sometimes. I really wish I had his vocabulary, if not his hair.”

And while Rove McManus loves Campbell, a lot of New Zealanders love Rove. His weekly chat show is re-broadcast here (Fridays, TV3, 9pm) and has built up a respectable audience of about 200,000 New Zealanders a week, despite being up against ratings blockbusters such as TV2’s American Idol. In Australia, Rove has won a host of Logie awards, including several Gold Logies that recognise him as the most popular personality on Australian television
