Rove has “made the grade”

October 11th, 2007 · No Comments

The Age has a excellent interview/piece with Rove. A section is below.

At 33, Rove finds himself in a contemplative frame of mind. His contract with Ten is up for renewal at the end of the year. Talks are just warming up. He’s not anxious. “I’m supremely happy with where I am in my career and if, for whatever reason, everything were to fall flat on its face and I find myself without a job next year, I’ve had a pretty good run,” he says.

Ensconced in his distinctly non-palatial production company office space in Abbotsford, Rove finds himself in precisely the same brain space he was in at the close of 1999, when his impressive 10-week stint on Nine fronting a late-night sketch/talk show ended. Rove wanted to do more. Nine told him not to worry about it. He didn’t.

“At the time my philosophy was that we did a show that I was really proud of, that my peers enjoyed that was fairly well-received for its timeslot. And I thought, ‘Well, that was 10 weeks more television than anyone else I know has done’. So that was pretty cool.”
