The Herald Sun reveals that Helliar is leaving Before the Game and may be heading to Triple M.
MELBOURNE comic Peter Helliar has emerged as the top contender to replace the disbanded Cage crew in Triple M’s breakfast slot.
Helliar had said he would not be involved in Channel Ten’s Australian rules football program Before the Game next year. With Rove McManus soon out of contract with the network and his show, in which Helliar also appears, under a cloud for next year, the timing could be right. Helliar has recent radio runs under his belt, having filled in at Nova this year on a casual basis.
If the move proved successful, the popular stand-up could be a forceful threat on the FM brekkie dial to his comedy cohorts Dave Hughes and Kate Langbroek at Nova, and Jo Stanley and Matt Tilley at Triple M’s Austereo stablemate, Fox FM. Helliar’s agent, Kevin Whyte, and Triple M were both tightlipped yesterday, but the station confirmed it would lock in its talent for the vacant slot by the end of the month. “I can’t talk about it at the moment,” Whyte said.
