When Rove re-launched (again) this year it was with high hopes we all watched and yearned for something new and interesting. We did get that, however as the year has gone on at least one segment has gone stale. PeteSpace was funny the first few times but now has grown tired, the news desk segment remains solid as does “Hughesy Loses it” even though it would be nice if he could do a happy commentary for once like he did on “The Glass House”. The Hamish and Andy segments are generally funny (perhaps a little long).
One thing I miss from previous seasons is the monologue from Rove. He still does one, however it is shorter than previously and done sitting down. I am glad they brought back the couch as it was in the 1999 ‘Rove’ series on the Nine Network.
The ratings has so far been surprisingly stable and solid. Against horrendously tough competition from CSI and Grey’s Anatomy Rove holds his own. Something not all comics can do these days (Mick Mollloy?). So this year I have been pleased the way the show has gone down and judging by the ratings it is reinvigorated the program.
